UiTM visit to Orang asli Community in Royal Belum & Temenggor
Known for its ancient, unspoiled rainforests and astounding diversity of animals. Malaysia’s northern Royal Belum State Park is a fascinating destination. In this piece, we’ll take you on an adventurous expedition alongside a team of UiTM Shah Alam researchers, as they explore for this park’s distinctive experiences and deep cultural significance. The team had to travel through the vast Tasik Temenggor to reach Royal Belum State Park, and this experience in and of itself set the stage for an amazing excursion. The first part of their expedition involved a boat ride that took them to the indigenous Orang Asli community of Kampung Klewang on their very first day.
The primary purpose of this visit was to engage in enlightening interviews with the residents of Kampung Klewang, whose deep connection to the rainforest and its surroundings offers an exceptional insight into the heart of the park.
The second day of this captivating journey was a thrilling experience, with the team embarking on a four-wheel drive adventure to access the enchanting BRS Banun area, before heading to Kampung Semelor, a village known for its pristine beauty within the park’s vicinity. As with the previous day’s mission, the goal was to connect with the local people, understand their unique way of life, and appreciate their cultural significance in the context of Royal Belum State Park.The adventure continued as the team visited Sekolah BRS Banun, a school nestled amidst the park’s lush surroundings. Interactions with both students and teachers provided valuable insights into the education and social fabric of this remote region, further enriching the team’s understanding of the park’s significance. The day concluded with a return to the resort, where the researchers could reflect on their experiences.
One of the most exceptional aspects of this expedition was the opportunity to interact with the Orang Asli community.
